Hava Nagila - Trio Balkanske Zice

Trio Balkanske Zice performs Hava Nagila.

Composed in 1918, Hava Nagila is one of the first modern Jewish folk songs.  In this video, three members of the Balkanske zice music group perform the tune on a single guitar.

The song celebrates the Balfour Declaration and the British victory over the Ottoman Empire in 1918 and 1917 respectively.  Loosely based on the 118th Psalm the lyrics encourage a joyful outlook.

Let’s rejoice and be happy

Let’s sing and be happy

Awake my brothers with a happy heart
