My Rabbi's Tie

My Rabbi's Tie

I was searching for something to give my Rabbi and his wife. I loved them very much so I just wanted to give something. I found his wife a pretty lacy kippah for ladies that had pearl colored beads in it which I really thought was very beautiful and something she would like.

After some thought, I also purchased a tie with the Star of David on it. I wasn’t too confident with this gift though. Although it seemed like a good present, I wondered if it would be too much as it was very bold. It was white and blue with many stars on it unlike some of the other ties which had a similar style but were more subdued which may be easier to match with many suits. It didn’t seem like a very introvert friendly item but he seemed outgoing enough to make it work and I liked it and got it anyway. But I didn’t know if I would ever see him wear it though as I didn’t know if the colors where too bright for his taste or if it matched his suits or not, as he lived in another state.

One day when I went to a conference and saw my rabbi and his wife I was happy to see that he wore the tie, but I wasn’t sure if he only wore it that one time to be nice. I know I have been given some clothing as a gift that I would wear but while I didn’t hate it I knew I didn’t like it that much, so I could completely understand if he felt the same. But while at home while watching a program on T.V at a later date I saw him speaking and noticed he wore it again, and I was so excited to have evidence my father figure really liked my gift enough to show it in public that I told my friend. I didn’t worry about the gift for his wife because I thought it was so pretty I would’ve worn it myself and she said it was nice too, but I was very glad that the gift I picked which I was the most worried about was also accepted well.

But soon after I thought of how excited God must feel when He sees us accepting and using the opportunities He gives us. “The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:18. My heavenly Father is very happy to see me taking advantage of the gifts He has given me in the Bible and to see me incorporate His principles into my life. So just was I felt good knowing that people a loved accepted the good thing I wanted to give I should want God to feel good when He looks on my life too.

It is easily to forget that God has feelings and just live life as if humans are the only ones in the universe. But we should be wiser than that and be more considerate of the King of the Universe. Do we thank God for the air? Do we thank God for our food and let Him know we appreciate it? We should try to appreciate all the gifts God has given us out of love even if we don’t always like everything in life and remember that God is the greatest gift He has given us. We should invest in our relationship with God and show our appreciation by accepting His truth into our lives.
