Paraguay with New Embassy in Jerusalem

The South American Country of Paraguay will be placing its embassy in Israel’s capital Jerusalem. The announcement comes just hours after Santiago Peña was inaugurated as Paraguay’s new president.

Peña promised this move as he campaigned, and now he is moving forward to fulfill it. The move is scheduled to take place sometime in 2023.

The United States, because of the bold move by former President Trump, was the first country to move its embassy to Jerusalem. That took place in 2018, seventy years after Israel became a nation. Three other countries followed suit: Guatemala, Honduras, and Kosovo. Paraguay’s move will bring the number of foreign embassies up to five, with several other countries making plans to follow suit.
