In this program Assaf talks about the war and again emphasizes that many people in Israel’s Defense Forces stepped up to provide Israel with support. He also shares a traditional Jewish saying that you can learn from the video and shows the Hebrew as well.
He explains how it applies to times of crisis for Jewish people around the world and how people come to help. He wants people to remember that the Jewish people are all one family and should care for each other in times of trouble.
Many Jewish people of various ages volunteered to help during the war even if they were not currently in Israel. People sent medical equipment and other things that can help Israel take care of itself. People also sent a lot of money for the solders to help keep their spirits up. Children from around the world sent them pictures. Some people cooked food for the soldiers and hosted families. People really invested a lot. A lot of other things were said about what was done as so many people poured their hearts and time into finding ways to support Israel as a nation.
At the end of the program, he reminds the viewers that there are many Jewish communities around the world in many different nations that care about what happens to people in Israel. Because of this, the Jewish people in Israel should know that they are not alone in their difficulties, remembering that the Jewish people are family. All of this support reflects that. While watching this video, there is another great lesson we can keep in mind also. While it is great and very important to care for those who are close to us, we must also remember not just family are those who seem to be the most obvious candidates for our care.
“’This God made us in all our diversity from one original person, allowing each culture to have its own time to develop, giving each its own place to live and thrive in its distinct ways. His purpose in all this was that people of every culture and religion would search for this ultimate God, grope for Him in the darkness, as it were, hoping to find Him. Yet, in truth, God is not far from any of us. For you know the saying, “‘We live in God; we move in God; we exist in God.’ And still another said, ‘We are indeed God’s children’” (Acts 17:26-28).
“You see, you have not received a spirit that returns you to slavery, so you have nothing to fear. The Spirit you have received adopts you and welcomes you into God’s own family. That’s why we call out to Him, “Abba! Father!” as we would address a loving daddy” (Romans 8:15). It should remove even more fear and inspire even greater confidence knowing that we our part of the family of the One who made the whole universe. It is the love we show for others -- even those who are not like us -- that proves we are part of God’s family. “If someone claims, ‘I love God,’ but hates his brother or sister, then he is a liar. Anyone who does not love a brother or sister, whom he has seen, cannot possibly love God, whom he has never seen” (1 John 4:20). As you watch this video, remember you are a loved member of God’s big family, and the greatest evidence that you understand that is the love and care you share with others.
