Sol Urbach - Saved by Oscar Schindler

Holocaust survivor Sol Urbach remembers Oscar Schindler, who was granted the honorific title Righteous of the World’s Nations.

The State of Israel confers the honorific title of Righteous of the World’s Nations upon non-Jews who risked their lives during World War II to save Jews from Nazi extermination.

One who is recognized as Righteous for taking risks to help Jews during the Holocaust is awarded a medal in their name, a certificate of honor and the privilege of having their name added to the Wall of Honor in the Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

As of this date more than 27,700 individuals from fifty-one countries have been recognized.  Recipients who choose to live in Israel are given a pension equal to the average national wage and free health care.  In addition, assistance with housing and nursing care is provided.  Israel doesn’t forget the Righteous.
